A Quick Recap
TasteWP started a few years ago from a classic scratch-your-own-itch situation: we needed a platform to test our various SaaS and WordPress products. Local environments have some shortcomings: they cannot be shared easily, they don’t reveal issues that only happen on live servers, files need to be cleaned up after you’re done, and several others.
There were a few such online testing tools available back then, but they all lacked the level of sophistication we needed. That includes being able to quickly change the WordPress and PHP versions, advanced debugging options, having certain plugins or themes preinstalled and much more.
So, we had created the tool for our own use, but quickly realized that others may benefit from it as well. Hence, we polished it, and made it available for all. TasteWP was born.
Who is Using TasteWP?
What started out as a tool for developers became much more. Today, the most frequent use cases are:
- Users who want to try out themes or plugins before installing them on their live sites
- Users who create a staging site from their production site on TasteWP via the Backup & Migration plugin
- Developers who need an easy way to demo their free or premium products to users
- Developers who test their products in different WP/PHP version environments
- Beginners who are making their first steps on WordPress
- WordPress coaches who are using the teacher’s module for managing their students’ sites
- Users who want to know what themes and plugins a certain site has installed (via the TasteWP Chrome extension)
- Users who are hosting their site on TasteWP permanently
If you don’t see the reason why you’re using TasteWP on the above list, please tell us about it. We’re always interested in understanding TasteWP users’ needs better so that you can get the best WordPress staging service available.
Steaming Ahead
At the top of our priority list is to ensure the platform stays robust and manage the strong increase in usage. For this reason, we’re investing in code and architecture optimization, as well as server upgrades.
Second, we’ve frequently received requests to allow custom domains – a feature we can no longer ignore. Hence, we’re working on making this possible soon.
Apart from that, we’re adding new features to the TasteWP product roadmap. Please vote there to express which features you want to see live soon!
Thank you for being a TasteWP user and looking forward to continuing the journey with you!
